As you start to build out the details of your group travel, what the group is about, who is going, what you’ll be doing.  It’s time to decide where your group adventure will take you.

“The Destination You Choose Creates The Experience You’ll Have” - Josh Gauthier

What dream destinations does everyone have?  Is there one that’s located closer to everyone than the others?  Is there a destination that more than one person in the group wants to see?

Deciding on where to go sets the tone for what you’ll see, do, how you’ll spend time together and how enjoyable the experience is.  When you take the entire group into consideration everyone gets a bit of what they desire.  Sometimes all the dreams align and everyone gets exactly what they want.

Start With The Non-Negotiables.

What are the absolute minimums everyone wants out of their experience?  Time to relax, adventure time, pool time, swimming in the ocean, a mountain hike?  When you take a group survey you’ll write down all the critical aspects each member wants.

This acts as your first filter for deciding where to go.  When a destination doesn’t meet what's least expected from the group, continue looking.  It doesn’t serve anyone when you try to shoehorn a destination into everyone's wants.

There are plenty of destinations out there that offer tons of experiences and activities for your group.  Your non-negotiables are about discovering the right that's tailored needs of your group.

What Are The Nice To Have But Not Necessary?

On your group travel there are some activities and experiences people will want to have.  When you discuss it with them these  are not critical to them enjoying the vacation.  These are activities and experiences they’ve always wanted to do or experience.

Having an idea of what others want out of their vacations makes it easier to find the activities and experiences to meet those desires.  It also allows you to find similar experiences and activities.  Is it a cooking class, wine tasting, hiking, biking or cultural tour.  Whatever is on their list allows you to find solar experiences that fit their wants.

What Would Be A Bonus?

What’s something you’ve always wanted to do or experience?  Does your potential location have it?  Is there something similar?  When you know what your bonus experiences and activities are you can better plan and schedule.

Is there an opening in your schedule?  A free day?  How many others in your group want to do the same activity or are open to trying it out?

A few of our favorite activities we never included in our vacation plans but were amazing experiences.  Eating scones in the hills of Ireland overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.  It was some of the most amazing scenery we’ve ever seen.  Finding Crumpets in England, on a whim.  We mentioned this to our Concierge at our hotel and they pointed us to a place called “Crumpets.”  Before I had one I never knew what a Crumpet was, now I know.  It's like a fried English muffin.

When you’re open to exploring new and unique things it’s amazing what you can find.  That’s why we recommend you always keep a list of activities and experiences you’d like to try.  That way when they pop up you know to book it.

All These Criteria Lead To Your Perfect Group Vacation Destination.

As  you build this list with your group members you’ll start to see the patterns and synergies everyone wants.  That allows you to start honing in on your perfect destination.

There are thousands of destinations in the world, each one is unique and exciting in it’s own right.  Developing a list of Non-Negotiables, Nice To Have and Bonus activities and experiences creates a framework for you to work within.

This framework outlines the perfect destination, it operates as a checklist.  It will also save you many hours of research on your vacation and prevents you from researching destinations that won’t fit your groups dreams.
