Why did we save budget for last? With any destination there are more than one option for accommodations and activities.  Our belief is that knowing where you want to go, who’s going with you and what you’d love to do while on vacation are the critical features.

“A Travel Budget Is Your Framework To The Ultimate Experience” Josh Gauthier

As travel advisors our job is to find the right vacation that fits your budget. We look for the best value for your time and money. It's your framework to wok within.  When we’re researching options and we come across an excursion, an event, an experience we can place that in the bucket we’ll present to you.

What Is Your Trip Budget?

Look at how much you’re going to spend per person. Do you have a total amount? When looking at your finances for this trip is this the least amount, most amount or somewhere in the middle?

Knowing how much you’ll spend starts the process. From there we subtract everything else. The cruise or tour, accommodations, flights, travel insurance, visas, excursions, experiences. Items that make up your complete trip.

Extra spending that rarely gets included are things like buying new clothes, luggage, pet sitting, airport parking.  All these secondary costs many people don’t account for in their travel budget. How will you handle these? Will these costs come from a different budget or will you include them in your travel budget?

Where Do You Want To Focus Your Spend On?

Your trip will have many pieces to it. What’s most important? When building a budget knowing what’s more important than others.  This offers you opportunities to direct your dollars.

Is your hotel more important than activities? Would it be more important to have a balcony cabin on a cruise ship?  Would you rather spend those dollars taking a kayaking tour along the coast of Alaska?

Budgeting your travel can be tricky.  It’s one of the most critical components of booking your adventure. We’ve seen many self planners reel at the end cost of their vacation when they didn’t start out with a budget. It’s easy to add on high end excursions and other associated costs to your trip and the costs will skyrocket.

Your Budget Is Your Experience Framework.

Don’t believe that budgeting is about limiting your experience.  It’s about finding the best value for your available dollars.  It allows you to make the hard choices of what’s more important.  Does it make sense to spend a big part of your budget on a cabin or hotel room when you’ll rarely be there?

Having a balcony suite on a cruise ship or a room at the top of the hotel is an amazing experience.  Consider how much time will you spend there?

Will you be on excursions most of the day and enjoying the nightlife on ship?  If the room is only there to sleep in then decide how much you’re going to dedicate to this.

We can say the same for excursions.  There are tons of great options at each port, we’ve taken some amazing ones.  But, there are times when a hop on hop off bus will fit the bill.

A Vacating Budget Removes The Stress And Overwhelm Of Travel Planning.

When planning your vacating it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the choices available?  It can lead to indecision and not taking action.  You end up hoping that the activity will still be available when your on vacation.  Most of the popular to out and you’ll have to find alternatives last minute.

It allows you to direct your spending to the most important part of your vacation.  Is the room a priority?  Are your activities and experience more important.

From our earlier articles we discussed creating a list of desires your group travel has.  Knowing the budget allows you to plug and play in each component.
